DOWNTON ABBEY: Renewed for 5th Season, 2013 Christmas Special Image

Downton Abbey Season 4 Christmas Special

Downton Abbey Renewed for Season 5, Christmas Special Image. This recent ITV news answers the question of whether or not the cable TV station would renew the period-piece television show. The 5th season of Downton Abbey will be comprised of the same number of episodes as season four and will begin to air in 2014. This renewal news came as little surprise with “Season 4 debuted on ITV this year…[grabbing] its best-ever premiere ratings. It went on to average 11.8M viewers making it Britain’s highest-rated TV drama in 2013.”

On the people behind the scenes of season 5:

Season 5 will again be written by Julian Fellowes and exec produced by Carnival chief Gareth Neame, as well as Liz Trubridge and Fellowes…PBS president and CEO Paula Kerger said, ‘Like millions of other Downton fans, I can’t wait to see what’s next for the Crawley family.’

On this year’s Christmas special and PBS’ air date schedule:

The Crawley clan will be back on ITV on Christmas Day for a special two-hour episode and will kick off Season 4 in the U.S. on January 5th on Masterpiece.
