Eric Roth Slated To Pen Screenplay For Planned Dune Remake
Academy Award-winning Forrest Gump screenwriter Eric Roth is ready to adapt Frank Herbert’s landmark novel Dune for a new film adaptation.
Not only acclaimed for his work on the now-classic Robert Zemeckis film, Roth received additional Academy Award nominations for penning screenplays for The Insider and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. Considering the long, rich history surrounding the property, the movie scribe definitely has his work cut out for him on the planned project from fellow Academy Award nominee Denis Villeneuve.
Roth and the Arrival director will not be the first ones to adapt the book for the big screen however. Previously, David Lynch attempted his own take on the storied sci-fi novel in 1984 to tepid reception and a poor box office performance, although a devoted cult community has since arisen around the film.

Herbert himself wrote five literary Dune sequels and, beginning in 1999, new Dune novels began being published. Kevin J. Anderson and Brian Herbert teamed to write more than dozen novels that expanded on the Dune universe.
The new Dune movie will be produced by Thomas Tull, Mary Parent and Cale Boyter, with Brian Herbert, Byron Merritt and Kim Herbert serving as executive producers.
