J.K. Rowling Reveals That Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them Will Have Four Sequels
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them author J.K. Rowling reveals the franchise will consist of five movies instead of three.
The beloved Harry Potter creator broke the news during a live Q&A conducted on Facebook earlier today. According to Rowling, scripting for the planned series has gone along so well that Warner Bros has agreed to extend its commitment to the property from three films to five. She offered no word on when the additional sequels might be released, but the two previously-announced ones are set to hit theaters in 2018 and 2020:
The story opens in 1926 as Newt Scamander has just completed a global excursion to find and document an extraordinary array of magical creatures. Arriving in New York for a brief stopover, he might have come and gone without incident…were it not for a No-Maj (American for Muggle) named Jacob, a misplaced magical case, and the escape of some of Newt’s fantastic beasts, which could spell trouble for both the wizarding and No-Maj worlds.
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is being produced by David Heyman, producer of all eight of the blockbuster Harry Potter features; J.K. Rowling; Steve Kloves, who scripted all but one of the Harry Potter films; and Lionel Wigram, who served as an executive producer on the last four installments of the franchise. Rowling herself is supplying the screenplay.
