Scott Derrickson Hopes To See Fantastic Four In Marvel Cinematic Universe
Doctor Strange director Scott Derrickson expresses hope that the Fantastic Four will eventually appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The reason Marvel hasn’t used the team, whose members are some of the most recognizable in the company’s canon, goes back to the 1990’s when the company was facing serious financial troubles. In an attempt to alleviate its woes, Marvel sold off the movie rights to a number of their properties like X-Men and Spider-Man. Among these properties was Fantastic Four, the rights to which ended up in the hands of 20th Century Fox, where they remain to this day.
That being said, Marvel has worked out a deal with Sony to integrate Spider-Man into the MCU, opening the way to a similar collaboration between the company and Fox. This is likely why Derrickson believes the characters “can be properly brought into the MCU.”

For fans hoping to see Reed Richards and company make a proper MCU debut, there may be hope. The rights to Daredevil (also previously held by Fox) reverted back to Marvel in 2013, paving the way for “Marvel’s Daredevil” on Netflix. And of course, Sony and Disney/Marvel brokered a deal to share the rights to Spider-Man, securing that character’s long-awaited MCU debut in last year’s “Captain America: Civil War.”
