Fast Five – the fifth The Fast and The Furious film – is shutting scenes for car racing film in Rio de Janiero, Brazil. One of the people response for this was Sérgio Sá Leitão, president of RioFilm. RioFilm (RioFilme) has striven to attract foreign companies to shoot in Rio.

Leitão says the expected four-day shoot some time in November will add US$2m to the state’s economy. Scenes will be set in Rio’s historic downtown area, the beaches, the Sugar Loaf, and the Christ statue.

Several weeks ago, Leitão had tweeted that Fast Five would use CGI to recreate Rio on screen. Apparently, RioFilme’s efforts have persuaded Original Film/Universal to use real Rio locations at least for some of what will be seen on screen.

Fast Five (2011) is using Mexico to double as Brazil, where much of the film takes place -but will now shoot actual scenes on Brazilian soil. Fast Five is directed by Justin Lin and stars Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Jordana Brewster, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Tyrese Gibson, Sung Kang, Gal Gadot, Matt Schulze, Tego Calderon, Don Omar, Elsa Pataky, Joaquim de Almeida and Dwayne Johnson.
