Joker, Wonder Woman 2, Star Wars: Episode 9, and more have made recent film casting, screenwriting, and director news. These films come from movie studios primarily based in the United States and abroad. The castings, screenwriters, and directors are subject to change.

Joker Origin Film

Alec Baldwin has been cast as Thomas Wayne, “the father of Bruce Wayne/Batman…a cheesy and tanned businessman who is more in the mold of a 1980s Donald Trump.”

This actor joins already cast Joaquin Phoenix, Robert De Niro, Zazie Beetz, and Marc Maron.

Todd Phillips and Scott Silver will co-write the Todd Philips-directed film.

Joker‘s plot synopsis: “It will explore the life of a man destined to become Gotham City’s Clown Prince of Crime. The story takes place in the ’80s, outside of the DC Extended Universe series of films.”

Joker will be released in U.S. theaters through Warner Bros. on October 4, 2019.

Just Mercy

Tim Blake Nelson has been cast in an unspecified role.

This actor joins already cast: Michael B. Jordan, Brie Larson, Jamie Foxx, and O’Shea Jackson Jr.

Just Mercy’s plot synopsis: based on the memoir by Bryan Stevenson, “The story follows world-renowned civil rights defense attorney Stevenson (Jordan) as he recounts his experiences and details the case of a condemned death row prisoner whom he fought to free. The true story is one of redemption, passion, and mercy set against a backdrop of a corrupt judicial system which favors the death penalty and targets the poor.”

Destin Cretton and Andrew Lanham will co-write the Destin Cretton-directed film.

Sextuplets

Marlon Wayans has been cast as Alan, a man that five identical brothers.

Sextuplets‘ plot synopsis: “Sextuplets tells the story of Alan (Marlon Wayans), a man embarking on a personal journey to meet his birth mother before the arrival of his first child. When Alan meets his brother, Russell, he discovers that he was born a sextuplet and decides to seek out his four other siblings (all played by Wayans). Together, the two brothers set out on a road trip to track down the rest of the family that they’ve never known, and Alan quickly realizes he may have gotten more than he bargained for.”

Marlon Wayans, Rick Alvarez, and Mike Glock wrote the script for the Michael Tiddes-directed film.

Sextuplets will be released on Netflix sometime in 2019.

Medieval

Ben Foster has been cast as 14th-century warlord Jan Zizka of Trocnov, “who along with his band of mercenaries became entangled with an heiress and battled a rival King in a struggle for equality for the Czech people.”

Petr Jákl wrote the screenplay for the film and will direct the film.

Tigertail

John Cho has been cast in an unspecified role.

This actor will join already cast Tzi Ma and Christine Ko.

Tigertail‘s plot synopsis: “a multi-generational family drama, which [Alan] Yang drew from his own personal life for inspiration.”

Alan Yang will direct the film.

Star Wars: Episode IX

Emma Watson has been cast as Meg March.

This actress joins already cast: Saoirse RonanTimothee Chalamet, Florence Pugh, Laura Dern, and James Norton.

Little Women‘s plot synopsis: based on the book by Louisa May Alcott, “The story follows the March sisters: Amy, Jo, Beth and Meg in post-Civil War America.”

Greta Gerwrig wrote the screenplay for the film and will direct the film.

Little Women will be released in U.S. theaters through Columbia Pictures on December 25, 2019.

Fencer

Casey Affleck has been cast in an unspecified role.

Fencer‘s plot synopsis: “Fencer will tell the story of a hard-charging female athlete faces personal demons and childhood rivals as she vies for a spot on the U.S. Olympic Fencing Team.”

Wonder Woman 1984

Fair and Balanced‘s plot synopsis: “The film will focus primarily on the rise and fall of Ailes’ career at Fox News. His influence in Republican circles helped him assist in the election of a couple of presidents such as Richard Nixon and George Bush. Ailes’ public resignation in 2016 was as a result of numerous sexual misconduct allegations surfacing in the media.”
