Mulan, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Can You Keep a Secret?, and more have made recent film casting, screenwriting, and director news. These films come from movie studios primarily based in the United States and abroad. The castings, screenwriters, and directors are subject to change.

Mulan

Jimmy Wong has been cast as Ling, a soldier friend of Hua Mulan, “the clown of the group who always tries to make jokes” (if the character mimics his animated incarnation).

Doua Moua has been cast as Po, a soldier friend of Hua Mulan, “food-loving gentle giant” (if the character mimics his animated incarnation).

This actor joins already cast: Yifei Liu, Yoson An, Jet Li, Li Gong, Donnie Yen, Ron Yuan, Xana Tang, Chum Ehelepola, Roger Yuan, Utkarsh Ambudkar, and Jason Scott Lee.

Rick Jaffa, Amanda Silver, Elizabeth Martin, and Lauren Hynek wrote the screenplay for the Niki Caro-directed film.

Mulan’s plot synopsis: “Mulan is the epic adventure of a fearless young woman who masquerades as a man in order to fight Northern Invaders attacking China. The eldest daughter of an honored warrior, Hua Mulan is spirited, determined and quick on her feet. When the Emperor issues a decree that one man per family must serve in the Imperial Army, she steps in to take the place of her ailing father as Hua Jun, becoming one of China’s greatest warriors ever.”

Mulan will released in U.S. theaters through Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures to March 27, 2020.

Once Upon a Time in Hollywood

Mike Moh has been cast as actor Bruce Lee.

Quentin Tarantino wrote and is directing Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.

Once Upon a Time in Hollywood‘s plot synopsis: “Set in Los Angeles in the summer of 1969, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood focuses on a male TV actor named Rick Dalton (DiCaprio) who’s had one hit western series and is looking for a way to get into the film business. His sidekick Cliff Booth (Pitt) — who’s also his stunt double — is looking for the same thing. The horrific murder of Sharon Tate (Rick’s neighbor in the film, portrayed by Robbie) and four of her friends by Charles Manson’s cult of followers serves as a backdrop to the main story. The movie is said to be similar to a “Pulp Fiction-like tapestry” that covers a group of characters during that summer.”

Once Upon a Time in Hollywood will be released in U.S. theaters through Sony Pictures on August 9, 2019.

Queen for the Day

Elizabeth Banks has been cast as Lisa Barber, a shy, awkward hotel cleaner from Sheridan, Wyoming who wins a date with Prince by being the 10,000th caller in MTV / Warner Bros.’s Win A Date With Prince contest. The event and date change the life of Lisa Barber.

Flora Greeson and Josh Stolberg wrote the screenplay for Queen for the Day, based on Chris Lee‘s The Daily Beast article “When Prince Made a Chambermaid His Queen for a Day.”

Queen for the Day‘s plot synopsis: “The movie may be inspired by the article about the Cinderella story date, but the film will actually be about how the event changed the lives of two very different women — the Manhattan PR exec responsible for the event’s success and the shy, awkward contest winner from Wyoming, whose town becomes the unexpected nexus of all things Prince for one unforgettable night.”

6 Underground

Mélanie Lauren and Payman Maadi have been cast in unspecified roles.

This actress and actor join already cast: Ryan Reynolds, Dave Franco, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, Adria Arjona, Corey Hawkins, Ben Hardy, and Lior Raz.

Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick wrote the screenplay for the Michael Bay-directed film.

Random Acts of Violence

Jesse Williams has been cast as Todd Walkley, the creator of the Slasherman comic book.

Jordana Brewster has been cast as Kathy, Todd Walkley’s girlfriend.

This actor and actress join already cast Jay Baruchel.

Random Acts of Violence‘s plot synopsis: “Random Acts of Violence follows the story of comic book creator Todd Walkley (Williams), along with his girlfriend, Kathy (Brewster), assistant Aurora (played by Niamh Wilson), and best friend and Hard Calibre Comics owner Ezra (Baruchel) as they go on a road trip. On their way from Toronto to New York for Comic-Con, bad things start to happen and people start getting killed in a fashion eerily similar to the kills portrayed in his Slasherman comic. It becomes clear that a very avid fan is out there following them and hurting people, and using Todd’s comic as inspiration. As the bodies pile up, and Todd’s friends and family become targets and victims themselves, Todd will be forced into taking responsibility for everything his ideas have wrought.”

Jesse Chabot and Jay Baruchel co-wrote the screenplay that both will also co-direct. The screenplay is based on the graphic novel of the same name by Jimmy Palmiotti and Justin Gray.

Antlers

Jesse Plemons has been cast in an unspecified role.

This actor joins previously cast Keri Russell.

Antlers‘ plot synopsis: “a teacher who takes an interest in a mysterious and withdrawn student. Only too late does she discover that the boy is harboring a deadly secret that is key to their town’s survival.”

Nick Antosca and Henry Chaisson wrote the screenplay for the Scott Cooper-directed film. The screenplay is based on the short story by Nick Antosca.

The Woman in the Window

Anthony Mackie has been cast in an unspecified role.

This actor joins already cast Wyatt Russell, Julianne Moore, and  Amy Adams.

The Woman in the Window‘s plot synopsis: based on the book by A.J. Finn, the film “tells the story of Dr. Anna Fox (Amy Adams), a recluse in New York City who drinks her days away alone in her apartment, watching classic films and her neighbors. When the Russells move into the house across the way, Anna sees the ideal family and spies on them, only to witness a shocking event that changes her life.”

Tracy Letts wrote the screenplay for the Joe Wright-directed film.

The Woman in the Window will be released in U.S. theaters through Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures on October 4, 2019.

Melissa Bolona has been cast as Ruby, “a child adopted into an affluent family who struggles to mediate the chaos roiling around her as she plans her impending wedding at her fiancé’s family’s lavish countryside estate.”
