FilmBookCast Ep. 118

FilmBookCast is an entertainment industry podcast on the latest movie and television news.

Each week, Kevin Allen discusses entertainment news, including TV and film trailers. In FilmBookCast Ep.118, Kevin looks at movie previews including Respect, starring Jennifer Hudson, and Pixar’s Soul starring Jamie Foxx. TV trailers include a preview of season four of Wynonna Earp on SyFy, as well as the upcoming video game adaption Cuphead from Netflix.

Among this week’s headlines: A new settlement for some of the victims of convicted rapist & former movie producer Harvey Weinstein, a look back at the life of Hollywood legend Carl Reiner, and Beavis and Butthead are making another return to the small screen

Kevin wraps up every episode with a movie review. In FilmBookCast Ep.118, he spotlights The King Of Staten Island, directed by Judd Apatow.

The King of Staten Island’s plot synopsis:  “Scott (Pete Davidson) has been a case of arrested development ever since his firefighter father died when he was seven. He’s now reached his mid-20s having achieved little, chasing a dream of becoming a tattoo artist that seems far out of reach. As his ambitious younger sister (Maude Apatow) heads off to college, Scott is still living with his exhausted ER nurse mother (Oscar-winner Marisa Tomei) and spends his days smoking weed, hanging with the guys — Oscar (Ricky Velez), Igor (Moises Arias) and Richie (Lou Wilson) — and secretly hooking up with his childhood friend Kelsey (Bel Powley).

But when his mother starts dating a loudmouth firefighter named Ray (Bill Burr) it sets off a chain of events that will force Scott to grapple with his grief and take his first tentative steps toward moving forward in life.

The film also stars (Steve Buscemi) as Papa, a veteran firefighter who takes Scott under his wing, and Pamela Adlon as Ray’s ex-wife, Gina.”
