Frank Darabont's The Walking Dead Television Series on AMC

Director Frank Darabont is bringing Robert Kirkman‘s comic book series The Walking Dead to American Movie Classics (AMC) Television. This is fantastic news. Frank Darabont is a great director. I became a fan of his after The Shawshank Redemption and The Green Mile. The Mist (such an unrated horror film, except on this site) solidifies that he can direct horror and I am really looking forward to what he does with The Walking Dead.

Production begins today in Atlanta for AMC’s adaptation of the Robert Kirkman comic The Walking Dead. The six-episode first season — written, produced and directed by three-time Academy Award-nominee Frank Darabont (The Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile) and executive produced by Gale Anne Hurd (The Terminator, Aliens, Armageddon, The Incredible Hulk) — follows a group of survivors, led by police officer Rick Grimes, traveling in search of a safe and secure home after a zombie apocalypse.

What is great about Darabont’s The Walking Dead being on AMC Television is that they produce and show edgy television like Breaking Bad and Mad Men. F/X and SpikeTV would have been good landing spots for Darabont’s zombie series as well. Maybe not SpikeTV though. They canceled the great Blade: The Series after one season.
