G.I. JOE: RETALIATION (2013): Box Office Success Means 3rd GI Joe Film

Dwayne Johnson Ray Park GI Joe Retaliation

Third GI Joe film coming. The box office success of G.I. Joe: Retaliation (2013) has green-lit a third film in the franchise. This is no surprise. Movie studios are always looking for franchises and name recognition. G.I. Joe gives them both. The impetus for the third was G.I. Joe: Retaliation‘s global box office receipts over the weekend. G.I. Joe: Retaliation made $131.3 million at the global box office, most-likely do to many presentations of the film being in 3D.

On the costs and profits of G.I Joe: Rise of Cobra vs. G.I. Joe: Retaliation:

“Retaliation,” which is an MGM-Skydance co-production, cost less ($130 million) than “Cobra,” which rang in at $175 million.

“Retaliation” outdid its predecessor by 35% globally, thanks in no small part to the 3D upcharge. If “Retaliation” continues to keep that same lead (and it could), the film will land in the ballpark of $410 million worldwide. “Cobra” grossed $303 million globally.

Jon M. Chu‘s G.I. Joe: Retaliation stars Channing TatumDwayne Johnson, Ray Park, Byung-hun Lee, Bruce Willis, Elodie Yung, Adrianne Palicki, Joseph Mazzello, Arnold Vosloo, Walton Goggins, Ray Stevenson, RZA, D.J. Cotrona, Faran Tahir, Han Soto, Jonathan Pryce, and Matt Gerald.
