HBO Confirms Game of Thrones Will End It’s Run After Its Eighth Season. There has been much speculation on whether Game of Thrones is reaching its end soon after the conclusion of the sixth season. Now it is confirmed that the series will end its run after it’s eighth season.

During the Television Critics Association Summer Press Tour, HBO’s new programming chief Casey Bloys talked with the press about the future of the fantasy drama series. The HBO boss did officially confirm that the eighth season of George R.R. Martin’s fantasy drama would be it’s final one. The news corroborates with showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss’ plans to end the show on eight seasons. “Yes, I think they have a very specific plan about the number of seasons they want to do,” Bloys said. “If I could get them to do more, I would take 10 seasons, but we want to take their lead with what they can do and what the best version of the show is.”

With a possible eighth season, plans were put in place by the showrunners to have the final season run with just six episodes. However, Bloys explained that it hasn’t been determined how many episodes would be given for the final bow. This could potentially mean that the last season may end up getting an extra hour or two to close out the series.

Despite the series coming to an end, there is a small chance for some spin-offs in the works. Right now it’s too early to tell, but Bloys has said that there is an interest in pursuing it down the line.

We’ve talked about it. It’s something I’m not opposed to, but of course it has to make sense creatively. I’m not sure that [Benioff and Weiss] could really wrap their heads around it when they’re just about to start production [on season 7]. It’s a pretty intense production, they’re about to start production soon. I’m open to it. The guys weren’t opposed to it, but there’s no concrete plans for it at this point.

Production for season seven should start by late this year for a summer launch in 2017. Are you guys sad that Game of Thrones will be coming to an end after its eighth season?
