Jordan Peele Gets Candid About Directing Get Out
Key & Peele star and co-creator Jordan Peele opened up about working as a first-time director on the upcoming horror film Get Out.
Known primarily for his sketch comedy writing and acting, it came as a bit of a surprise when it was initially announced that Peele would write and direct not just a film, but one in the horror genre. For the comedian however, it was nothing less than the fulfillment of a lifelong dream. As IndieWire reveals, Peele not only grew up loving horror and thriller films but in fact originally planned to become a filmmaker before settling for a career in comedy (if you can call becoming one of the most successful comedy writers and performers today “settling”).
Additionally, Indiewire explains the process by which Peele was able to bring his brainchild to life:
You boil down your influences to a soup and it all informs you,” Peele said. “So once I knew what this movie was about, it was just about delivering on that.” For years, Peele had kept his passion for psychological horror among friends. Key got an earful. When he was acting in the 2013 horror satire “Hell Baby,” he recommended that McKittrick, a producer on the project, meet with Peele. “You gotta sit down with Jordan,” Key told him. “He’s obsessed.” When McKittrick met with Peele, “I just freaked out over the idea,” McKittrick recalled.
