M. Night Shyamalan To Direct Split Sequel Titled Glass
Academy Award-nominated Sixth Sense director M. Night Shyamalan intends to direct a sequel to his recent film Split called Glass.
Coming out just last year, the psychological thriller featured a quintessentially-Shyamalan twist ending after the movie ended, with a post-credits scene revealing that the film takes place in the same continuity as his 2000 drama Unbreakable. Fans will remember that movie as the director’s take on the archetypal superhero mythos, with Bruce Willis playing a man who learns he is the contemporary equivalent of the Greek heroes of old from Samuel L. Jackson‘s Mr. Glass, a physically-disabled man who is not all he seems.
Not content just to throw in a twist at the last minute, Shyamalan explains that his next movie will actually see the two films collide. According to Superherohype, the source of this story, the director said the following on Twitter:
“Finished the new script,” the writer-director wrote online. “It’s taken 17 years but I can finally answer the #1 question I get, ‘Are you making a f#&@ing sequel to Unbreakable or what?’ My new film is the sequel to Unbreakable AND Split. It was always my dream to have both films collide in this third film.”
Shyamalan went on to confirm that Bruce Willis will return as David Dunn along with James McAvoy as Kevin Wendell Crumb and his multiple identities, Anya Taylor-Joy will return as Casey Cooke, and Samuel L. Jackson is back as Elijah Price, aka Mr. Glass, for the feature film.
