Paramount Pictures announces God Particle release date. The studio said that audiences can expect to see the upcoming sci-fi story within a little over a year.
First conceived back in 2012, God Particle is an original feature from J.J. Abrams‘ Bad Robot Productions. Working in both television and film, the company has contributed such noteworthy science fiction programs and projects as Alias, Fringe, Cloverfield, Super 8, and the new Star Trek films. The company’s biggest success however, is last year’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which broke numerous records to become the third highest grossing film of all time. High on the success of that film, it seems Bad Robot is ready to return to the more humble God Particle.
Languishing in development hell for years, it is no surprise that little information has been provided about the film. That being said, some details about the plot have been leaked to the press, although their veracity cannot be confirmed:
The plot of God Particle is said to revolve around an American space station that, after an accident with a particle accelerator, suddenly finds that Earth has vanished altogether. Things get stranger when they then they pick up traces of another space station nearby.
In physics, the “God Particle” is a nickname given to the hypothetical Higgs boson, a particle upon which much of our understanding of quantum physics is based. The world’s largest particle accelerator, the Large Hadron Collider, was built in Geneva, Switzerland in an attempt to prove the Higgs boson’s existence.
