Godzilla Comic Con Trailer. Gareth EdwardsGodzilla (2014) teaser trailer from the San Diego Comic-Con International stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen, Bryan Cranston, Sally Hawkins, and Juliette Binoche. Godzilla‘s plot synopsis: “An epic rebirth to Toho’s iconic Godzilla, this spectacular adventure pits the world’s most famous monster against malevolent creatures who, bolstered by humanity’s scientific arrogance, threaten our very existence.”

On the Godzilla teaser trailer:

Of course, as we now know that trailer was a “mood piece,” a contained experiment the studio created with the sole intention to let Edwards show off the kind of tone he’d be going for with the movie. It was said to contain nothing that would actually be in the final trailer. So please, keep that in mind when you watch the below “trailer” for Godzilla. This is just the presentation from Comic-Con. It may not be the exact trailer (Erik Davis, who was there the first time, couldn’t recall if anything had been added or not), but it certainly doesn’t contain anything featuring Elizabeth Olsen, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Bryan Cranston or any other known cast members.

On Godzilla‘ lineage and past:

Godzilla (Gojira) is a kaiju (Japanese giant monster), first appearing in Ishiro Honda’s 1954 film Godzilla. Since then, Godzilla has gone on to become a worldwide pop culture icon starring in 28 films produced by Toho Co., Ltd.. The monster has appeared in numerous other media incarnations including video games, novels, comic books, and television series. A 1998 American reimagining was produced and a second American version is currently undergoing post-production. It is commonly referred to as the King of the Monsters.

With the nuclear bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki and the Lucky Dragon 5 incident still fresh in the Japanese consciousness, Godzilla was conceived as a metaphor for nuclear weapons. As the film series expanded, some stories took on less serious undertones portraying Godzilla as a hero while other plots still portrayed Godzilla as a destructive monster; sometimes the lesser of two threats who plays the defender by default but is still a danger to humanity.

Godzilla also stars Ken Watanabe, David Strathairn, CJ Adams, Richard T. Jones, Brian Markinson, Victor Rasuk, Al Sapienza, Patrick Sabongui, Primo Allon, and Carson Bolde.
