GYPSY: Naomi Watts To Star In Psychological Drama [Netflix]

Naomi Watts cast as lead in Gypsy. The upcoming original series from Netflix will see Watts play a therapist who becomes a little too involved with her patients’ and their lives.

In addition to headlining the show, Watts will serve as an executive producer on the program. Netflix is producing Gypsy in conjunction with Universal Television and Working Title as well as writer Lisa Rubin. Rubin will join Watts as an executive producer on the project in a team that includes Lisa Chasin, Tim Bevan, Eric Fellner, Andrew Stearm, and Sean Jabolonski, who is also the series’ showrunner. 10 episodes have already been ordered, with the first two set to be directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson, who is best known for his work on Fifty Shades of Grey:

Watts started her career in television in Australia. In the U.S., she starred on the short-lived NBC series Sleepwalkers before her breakout role in David Lynch’s Mulholland Dr. launched her feature career. Two-time Oscar nominee Watts is currently starring in Demolition with Jake Gyllenhaal. She has also shot The Weinstein Co.’s About Ray with Susan Sarandon and Elle Fanning, Gus Van Sant’s Sea of Trees with Matthew McConaughey, Colin Trevorrow’s The Book of Henry and the psychological thriller Shut In. She will next star in Destin Daniel Cretton’s The Glass Castle with Brie Larson. Watts is repped by CAA and Untitled Entertainment.

Rubin also is adapting best-selling novel I Was Here by Gayle Forman for New Line and the novel Food Whore for DreamWorks.
