John Carpenter begins pre-production work on Halloween 10. The prolific horror director guarantees that the the tenth Halloween film will be the most frightening entry in the long-running slasher series.
Released in 1978, the original Halloween shocked audiences with it’s suspenseful narrative as well as it’s masked protagonist, the murderous Michael Myers. The critical and financial success of the film opened the way for a number of sequels as well as a reboot directed by Rob Zombie in 2007.
Although Carpenter served as a producer on the first few sequels, he has not been involved with the franchise since the early 80’s, ending his involvement after Halloween III: Season of the Witch. It seems that he is finally ready to return to the world of Halloween thirty-eight years after the debut of the original film:
The new movie will be co-financed by Blumhouse and Miramax, which holds the worldwide distribution rights. David Thwaites will oversee the project for Miramax.
“Thirty-eight years after the original Halloween, I’m going to help to try to make the 10th sequel the scariest of them all,” said Carpenter.
Added Blum: “Halloween is one of those milestone films that inspired everyone at our company to get into the world of scary movies. The great Malek Akkad and John Carpenter have a special place in the hearts of all genre fans, and we are so excited that Miramax brought us together.”
Bringing Carpenter and Blum together means the new Halloween movie will be old-school horror meets new-school scares.
