WHY? WITH HANNIBAL BURESS: Comedy Central Picks Up New Series

Hannibal Buress

Comedy Central Orders Why? With Hannibal Buress. Hannibal Buress continues his march towards Hollywood domination now that Comedy Central has picked up an 8-episode order for his weekly half-hour show Why? Buress signed a developmental deal with Comedy Central in 2013. In addition to the pilot commitment, the terms of the deal included a one-hour special, a stand up tour and a role on Broad City.

Here are the details as reported by Deadline

Executive produced by Buress, Jeff Stilson (Da Ali G Show) and 3 Arts’ Dave Becky, the series will feature the comedian providing his perspective on each week’s zeitgeist-driven topic, answering the burning questions on his mind through stand-up, filmed segments, man-on-the-street interviews and in-studio guests. To stay topical, each episode will be shot in front of a studio audience, taping the same week it airs.

Although respected in the comedy community for years (placed on Variety’s 10 comedians to watch list in 2010), it wasn’t until recently that Hannibal began making a name for himself in the mainstream. 2014 proved to be a breakthrough year for the rising star as he had memorable appearances on the series Broad City, stole scenes in the film Neighbours and his comedy act was the catalyst for the Bill Cosby rape allegation media storm.
