Guillermo Del Toro Officially Confirms Hellboy 3 Will Not Happen
Pacific Rim director Guillermo del Toro finally shuts the door for good on the possibility of making Hellboy 3.
The news will come as a blow to diehard fans of the science fiction/fantasy franchise, which saw its last installment in 2008. As if this wasn’t bad enough, the movie ended on a sort of cliffhanger, with it being revealed that Liz Blair was pregnant with the titular hero’s offspring.
Since then, the series’ surrounding cult following has waited anxiously for word on the status of a third film. When del Toro promised that he would speak with Hellboy creator Mike Mignola and others involved with the franchise about continuing the saga on if enough people voted in a poll he posted on his Twitter account, response was overwhelming and sure enough, he arranged a meeting with his former collaborators. Unfortunately, it looks like these meetings bore no fruit.
This an even bigger shame as the director apparently had big ideas for the next Hellboy movie, as Superherohype shows:
“The idea for it was to have Hellboy finally come to terms with the fact that his destiny, his inevitable destiny, is to become the beast of the Apocalypse, and having him and Liz face the sort of, that part of his nature, and he has to do it, in order to be able to ironically vanquish the foe that he has to face in the 3rd film.
