Idris Elba Currently Producing POE MUST DIE Trilogy

Idris Elba

Elba Producing Poe Must Die Trilogy. Famous for his iconic role as Stringer Bell in HBO’s The Wire, actor Idris Elba is currently developing a trilogy based on Marc Olden’s Poe Must Die novel. Poe Must Die is not Olden’s only work to receive the big screen treatment. The seminal 1977 blaxploitation film, Black Samurai featuring Jim Kelly was also adapted from Olden’s 1970’s novel series of the same name.

Poe Must Die Synopsis,

The story, published in 1978, is set in New York City in the 1840s, with Edgar Allan Poe fighting demonic forces and his personal demons while teaming with a renowned fighter pursuing a sorcerer who murdered the fighter’s wife. The sorcerer is seeking the Throne of Solomon, which will grant him immortality and control over Lucifer.

Poe Must Die will not be the only recent film property to feature Edgar Allan Poe as a protagonist. The 2012 film The Raven featured John Cusack as Edgar Allan Poe, working with a police detective to track down a serial killer. I can’t help but wonder if the movies 100-years from now will feature a crime-fighting Stephen King? Which modern writer do you think is best served as a crime fighting/ monster hunting movie protagonist?
