Joss Whedon to write, possibly direct ABC S.H.I.E.L.D. TV pilot. Marvel’s S.H.I.E.L.D. TV show pilot for ABC will expand the universe begun in Iron Man, Iron Man 2, Thor, The Incredible Hulk, Captain America: The First Avenger, and The Avengers.
S.H.I.E.L.D., an acronym for Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division, “will center around the espionage and law enforcement agency led by Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) in the cinematic universe. Whedon is on board to write with his brother Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen (Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog), and will also direct if his schedule allows it.”
On the production, “Joss Whedon, Jed Whedon and Tancharoen executive produce with Jeffrey Bell and Marvel TV’s Jeph Loeb…Whedon’s involvement was initially announced in early August, when we learned that Marvel had him on an exclusive contract through 2015”.
Production of the show will start immediately.
I am guessing that many second, third, and fourth tier Marvel characters not notable enough to warrant a stand-alone film will appear in this TV show. The show can also be used as a bridge between The Avengers and The Avengers 2, fleshing out characters that will appear in the sequel.
I really hope Summer Glau shows up . She would be awesome as a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent or a super heroine of some kind. Whedon always said how she would be great as ShadowCat
