Jurassic World 2 reportedly set to start production next year. Work on the sequel to the 2015 science fiction blockbuster will begin in February 2017.
The film is set to shoot on location in Hawaii, reflecting the traditional island settings of the Jurassic Park series. In a major departure from past shooting practices, however, the scenes filmed on Hawaii are just a single part of a wider schedule: the majority of the movie is intended to be shot in London, something that previous entries in the franchise have never done.
Actors planning to return in the sequel are Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard, with the two ready to reprise their roles from Jurassic World. Another noteworthy Jurassic Park alum returning to the series is Steven Spielberg, who will produce Jurassic World 2 with Frank Marshall:
The Impossible and A Monster Calls director J.A. Bayona will direct the Jurassic World sequel from a script by Colin Trevorrow and Derek Connolly. Trevorrow decided to hand over the director’s chair for the sequel, opting to journey to a galaxy far, far away with Star Wars: Episode IX. He previously revealed the quote from the original Jurassic Park that inspired their idea for the sequel, which comes from Sam Neil’s Alan Grant: “Dinosaurs and man, two species separated by 65 million years of evolution have just been suddenly thrown back into the mix together. How can we possibly have the slightest idea what to expect?”
