Annette Bening Joins The Cast Of Katrina: American Crime Story

Academy Award-nominated American Beauty actress Annette Bening is set to play former Louisiana Governor Kathleen Blanco in FX‘s popular limited series Katrina: American Crime Story.

American Beauty is not the only film for which Bening has received an Academy Award nomination for. She also been nominated for her performances in 1990’s The Grifters, 2005’s Being Julia and 2011’s The Kids Are Alright, for which she also received and won a Golden Globe nomination. More recently, she has appeared in 20th Century Women, which has seen her be nominated for another Golden Globe.

The program is the next installment of the FX anthology series, entering the picture after the conclusion of The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story. That iteration of the show followed the controversy surrounding the trial of alleged murderer O.J. Simpson.

The first installment, The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story, was nominated for 22 Emmy Awards and won 9, including Outstanding Limited Series. The People v. O.J. Simpson also won two Golden Globe Awards, including Best Television Limited Series or Motion Picture Made For Television; four Critics’ Choice Awards, including Best Movie Made for Television or Limited Series; and was named an AFI Television Program of the Year.
