MarVista Entertainment And IM Global Television Plan King Kong TV Series

MarVista Entertainment has partnered with IM Global Television to produce a new King Kong TV series.

Despite what one might assume, the show will have nothing to do with Warner Bros.’ and Legendary Pictures‘ recent film Kong: Skull Island. Instead, it will serve as a sort of continuation of the original 1933 film that delves deeper into the origin of Kong’s home as it existed in that film and feature women and members of ethnic minorities in major roles.

No actors have been named for the project, but several key production figures have. World Builder Entertainment’s Dannie Festa (known for his work on Trolls) will serve as an executive producer while Academy Award-nominated writers Jonathan Penner and Stacy Title will act as scribes for the series.

It is worth noting the the legal history of King Kong is an incredibly-complicated thing. In a world of fairly cut and dry “movie rights” like DC Comics or Marvel, King Kong has gone through an extensive battle in the court system with the character’s ownership divided across multiple parties:
