Cameron Cuffe Joins Krypton In Lead Role

TV newcomer Cameron Cuffe is set to play Seg-El, the grandfather of Superman, in Syfy‘s upcoming Krypton series.

Set two generations before the collapse of the planet and Superman’s fateful journey to Earth, Krypton will relay to viewers the story of Cuffe’s character. As the planet faces growing instability and increasing danger, Seg-El attempts to not only save his fellow Kryptonians but clear the name of his disgraced family in the process.

Although the character is an original creation for the series, Seg-El’s name is inspired by Superman co-creator Jerry Siegel as well as “The World of Krypton”, a 1980’s miniseries from John Byrne:

Cameron Cuffe joins a Krypton cast that also includes Georgina Campbell (King Arthur: Legend of the Sword) as Lyta Zod, part of Krypton’s military caste and daughter of General Alura Zod. Seg-El and Lyta Zod are in the midst of a secret, forbidden relationship.

Krypton will be executive produced by David S. Goyer (Man of SteelBatman v Superman: Dawn of JusticeThe Dark Knight trilogy) through his Phantom Four banner. Damian Kindler (Sleepy Hollow) will serve as executive producer/showrunner; Colm McCarthy (She Who Brings GiftsPeaky Blinders) is set to direct and co-executive produce the pilot. The pilot teleplay and story is written by David S. Goyer & Ian Goldberg (Once Upon a TimeTerminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles). Krypton will be produced by Warner Horizon Television and is based on characters created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, published by DC Comics.
