Syfy Gives Official Series Order for Krypton

Syfy is officially looking to explore the origins of Superman’s home planet as the channel has officially ordered Krypton to series. The upcoming prequel series will take off sometime this year and will go into the history of the doomed planet and the legacy of the House of El.

Written by Man of Steel’s David S. Goyer, the series will go deep into Kal-El’s family 200 years before Krypton’s destruction following the story of his grandfather Seg-El (Cameron Cuffe). The plot will involve the young Seg-El as he tries to restore the family name while also attempting to save his homeworld from it’s impending destruction. The first trailer for the series leaked earlier this year, prompting that production of the series was underway with the pilot already completed.

The latest pickup marks Syfy’s new initiative into expanding their programming lineup as the channel goes through a new logo change. No more details were given beyond that, but it’s likely that the first season may comprise of 10 or 13 episodes. There haven’t been any reports regarding if the series will be tied into the DC Extended Universe since the series does happen to take place two centuries before the events of Man of Steel.

If that’s not enough, the cable network also released a promotional image, giving us our first look at Seg-El with Lyta Zod (Georgina Campbell) and Kem (Rasmus Hardiker). What do you guys think? Will you be checking out Krypton when it drops on Syfy later this year?
