Michael Fassbender To Headline Kung Fury Sequel
Academy Award-nominated Steve Jobs actor Michael Fassbender is set to play a major role in the planned sequel to the cult classic short Kung Fury.
An Irish-German actor, Fassbender acted in a number of European productions before getting his Hollywood break in Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds. Since then, he has acted in everything from blockbusters like Ridley Scott’s Alien prequel series and Fox’s X-Men franchise to dramas like A Dangerous Method and 12 Years a Slave, for which he received his first Academy Award nomination. Most recently, he starred in the 2017 thriller The Snowman.
Directed by David Sandberg (no relation to Annabelle: Creation director David F. Sandberg), the original Kung Fury was crowdfunded online before proving surprisingly successful, piquing the interest of KatzSmith Production for development into a proper film.
Comingsoon.net shares the following synopsis for the original short:
It’s 1985, the best year ever. Miami is kept safe under the watchful eye of Kung Fury, the greatest damn cop of all time. Kung Fury’s Thundercops are the ultimate police force assembled from across history to defeat the villainous Kung Fuhrer, Adolf Hitler. After the tragic death of a Thundercop causes the group to disband, a mysterious villain emerges from the shadows to aid in the Fuhrer’s quest to attain the ultimate weapon. Kung Fury must travel space and time itself to save his friends, defend the prestigious Miami Kung Fu Academy, and defeat evil once and for all.
