LAZARUS: Image Comics Series Comes to Television

Lazarus

Legendary Television Plans on Turning Lazarus into a TV Series. Another one of Image Comics properties is coming to the small screen as Legendary Television has secured the rights to adapt the comic book series Lazarus into a television show.

The Hollywood Reporter first gave word that Lazarus will be adapted for television by Legendary TV with The Amazing Spiderman’s Matt Tolmach involved with the project as a producer. The comics were first published in October 2013 by Image Comics, known for their popular properties like The Walking Dead that was turned into an AMC hit series.

Created by Greg Rucka and Michael Lark, the series follows a dystopian future where the government becomes an old-world term, resources are scarce, and possession is part of the law. This new world has a handful of powerful families ruling their territory and using a Lazarus, or a genetically altered human to protect their most valuable possessions. Protagonist Forever Carlyle is a Lazarus who uses force and deception to keep her family safe. Everything goes downhill from there after Forever is left for dead defending her home.

Rucka will be writing the script for the pilot in addition to being an executive producer with Lark and Tolmach. The series will explore common themes like class structure, integrity, and love.

Rucka served as an executive producer for the film Whiteout, starring Kate Beckinsale, which was based on his comic book series. In addition, his other comic book series Queen & Country was picked up by 20th Century Fox and set to star Ellen Page.
