Noah Hawley Discusses Possibility of Crossovers on Legion

Legion is becoming one of Marvel and 20th Century Fox’s biggest gambles this year as we inch closer to its premiere on FX. The reason for that is because the show is part of the X-Men universe but isn’t going to be associated with the films. However, it doesn’t rule out any crossovers.

Making cinematic universes can be a tricky thing for studios, which is why Legion is trying to prove that it’s what fans want. It’s also being marketed as a dramatic departure from the Marvel and X-Men universes. Chatting with Entertainment Weekly, showrunner Noah Hawley spoke about the show possibly doing some crossovers down the line. “I’m firm believer the show has to stand on its own two feet. For a crossover to be possible we have to earn that right through the quality of our storytelling and hopefully our popularity. David’s origin story hasn’t changed, so we haven’t changed that connection to the X-Men universe.”

So for those of you expecting to see David Haller’s father Professor Xavier making an appearance, don’t hold your breath. At least, not this season for now. We could see some connection with the X-Men films later on in the series, but for now, the show must prove itself to stand on it’s own two feet first.

Starring Dan Stevens, the story focuses on David Haller, a mentally ill patient who has been in and out of psychiatric hospitals for years since he was a teenager. After meeting with a fellow patient, he finds out he’s more than human and that his visions are actually real.
