Hulu Orders Pilot for Adaptation of Locke & Key
Locke & Key is about to get a second chance at life on the small screen. Hulu has just ordered a pilot for a television adaptation of the popular comic book series, which is being written by the comic’s creator Joe Hill with Carlton Cuse hopping on as executive producer and showrunner.
According to Deadline, the upcoming series will have Doctor Strange’s Scott Derrickson directing the pilot episode along with other episodes if the project gets picked up to series. The horror/fantasy drama was first published in February 2008 and unloaded six story arcs with each one having six volumes with the exception of the last one, which had seven. The story focuses on a family moving from California to Massachusetts into an estate called Key House after the patriarch’s murder. Staying close to the father’s brother, things get weird when a set of keys ends up unlocking all kinds of secrets around the mansion, including a well where a mysterious girl is trapped.
Locke & Key was previously made for FOX back in 2010 with a pilot written by Josh Friedman and produced by Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci. The series starred Jesse McCartney, Sarah Bolger, Nick Stahl, Skylar Gaertner, Mark Pellegrino, and Miranda Otto. Despite not getting a series greenlight, the pilot of the cult classic was screened at San Diego Comic Con in 2011 with a positive response to fans.
