Logan Officially Receives Hard R-Rating “For Strong Brutal Violence”

Logan director James Mangold has revealed that the MPAA has decided to give the Fox X-Men spin-off an R-rating “for strong brutal violence”.

The news comes in the wake of repeated calls by fans for the movie to receive such a rating, with many arguing that it was the only way the movie could do the character of Wolverine justice. Although it has been suspected for some time that the film would get an R-rating, it was only today that it was confirmed by Mangold.

Posting on Twitter this morning, the Walk the Line director went out of his way to emphatically state that the movie is not for children. Not only did he say that it contains graphic violence, but he also warned that it featured strong language in addition to brief nudity. Parents would be well-advised to heed Mangold’s warning before buying tickets for the whole family when it comes out.

CBR.com, which is the source of this story, had this to share about the production:

“Logan” is set in the near future, years after the epilogue of 2014’s “X-Men: Days of Future Past.” In it, a weary Logan, whose healing factor is failing, cares for an ailing Professor Xavier in a hideout on the Mexican border. But Logan’s attempts to hide from the world and his legacy are up-ended when a young mutant arrives, pursued by dark forces.
