MEGA MAN: New Cartoon In Development [DHX Media]

Mega Man

DHX Media working with Dentsu Entertainment USA, Inc. to make a Mega Man TV show. The two companies have agreed to produce and distribute the planned Capcom video game adaptation together.

According to representatives for Dentsu Entertainment, the program will be aimed at a younger audience and thus it’s take on the character will reflect this. Departing from the background and design used for Mega Man in the 1994 animated series, the titular character’s real identity will be that of schoolboy Aki Light, who possesses the ability to change instantly from his skin to an impenetrable armor suit armed with powerful weapons when activated.

DHX also expressed excitement about the project, noting that they will have a chance to introduce Mega Man to a new generation of fans:

Dentsu Entertainment USA’s Kinoshita said, “Mega Man has a rare, nearly three-decade-long tradition with fans. We are excited to work with DHX to bring this newly imagined version of a long-beloved character back to the global marketplace.”

Man of Action Entertainment, creators of Ben 10, Generator Rex, the team and characters in the Academy Award-winner Big Hero 6, and the executive producers/writers who launched Ultimate Spider-Man and Marvel’s Avengers Assemble, will executive produce the all-new Mega Man.

Man of Action’s Duncan Rouleau said, “The best thing about Mega Man is his unflinching wide-eyed optimism and an over-the-top sense of humor. This show reflects both qualities. We’ve got it all in here, it’s hopeful, forward-leaning, action-packed… It’s full-on fun ahead!”
