MERCY (2016) Movie Trailer: A Dying Mother’s Visitors Initiate A Home Invasion

Masked Men Mercy

Mercy Trailer

Chris Sparling‘s Mercy (2016) movie trailer stars Constance Barron, Caitlin FitzGerald, Michael Godere, Tom Lipinski, and James Wolk. Mercy‘s plot synopsis: “When four estranged brothers return home to say their last goodbye to their dying mother, Grace, hidden motivations reveal themselves. The family’s already tenuous bonds are tested when secrets from Grace’s past resurface, causing a restless night to go terribly awry as the brothers are thrust into a fight for their own survival.”

Who the hell are those people outside the house? That is the first and last lingering thought the viewer will have when they see this trailer. This trailer starts out as one thing à la Million Dollar Baby then completely turns into something else around the middle of the trailer.

Here is another question: What was their mother into that these men would show up on the eve of her death?

There are few, very few trailers that generate questions about what the viewer has just witnessed. This trailer, somehow, achieved all of that. That does not mean that the film that this trailer heralds will be any good but it speak to good judgement when it comes to editing a trailer. Hopefully that same judgement was applied to the film.
