Mulan Film Production Begins; First Yifei Liu Image Released
The first official image of Yifei Liu as Hua Mulan in Mulan (2020) has been released by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures as production begins. Film production will take place in New Zealand and China. The Mulan picture from the live action adaptation isn’t from the film but rather is a studio picture of Yifei Liu in costume. I doubt Liu will look anything like she does in the picture for the majority of the film since she masquerades as a man in military garb for at least two-thirds of the film.

Niki Caro‘s Mulan also stars Yoson An, Jet Li, Li Gong, Donnie Yen, Ron Yuan, Xana Tang, Chum Ehelepola, Roger Yuan, Utkarsh Ambudkar, and Jason Scott Lee.
Mulan‘s plot synopsis: “Mulan is the epic adventure of a fearless young woman who masquerades as a man in order to fight Northern Invaders attacking China. The eldest daughter of an honored warrior, Hua Mulan is spirited, determined and quick on her feet. When the Emperor issues a decree that one man per family must serve in the Imperial Army, she steps in to take the place of her ailing father as Hua Jun, becoming one of China’s greatest warriors ever.”
