The new Jason Vorhees in the Marcus Nispel directed remake of Friday the 13th is Derek Mears. Mears is an alumni of horror films, having stared in The Hills Have Eyes 2, D-War, the Pro-Life episode of Masters of Horror and Cursed. I and many people would rather see Kane Hodder behind the mask again but I guess producers believe that since it’s a remake, why not get a new Jason? I would agree with that except you never see who is behind the mask anyway so it makes no difference. Why not use someone familiar with the part? I just hope that Mears and Odette Yustman on screen with Nispel behind the camera make for a good remake. Good remakes are very few and very rare.
