Carol, Brooklyn, Spotlight, and the winners for 2015 New York Film Critics Circle Awards have been announced. The 81th Annual New York Film Critics Circle “which are given annually to honor excellence in cinema worldwide by an organization of film reviewers from New York City-based publications. It is considered one of the most important precursors to the Academy Awards, although the Oscars were first awarded on 16 May 1929. The New York Film Critics’ Circle also gives special stand-alone awards to individuals and/or organizations that they believe have made significant contributions to the art of cinema that includes other film critics, film restorers, historians and service organizations.”
Carol is getting great reviews, including by our own film critic Macro Margaritoff, when he saw the film at the New York Film Festival. We will have to wait for the next few rounds of critics awards before we know if this is a pattern or not.
