NIGHTWING: Chris McKay To Direct Batman Spin-Off

Chris McKay Set To Serve As Director On Nightwing Movie

The LEGO Batman Movie director Chris McKay has been selected by Warner Bros. to helm the studio’s planned Nightwing film.

Although he doesn’t have the name recognition of Batman‘s sidekick Robin, the character is well-known to fans of the DC comics. This is due in no small part to the fact that Nightwing is in fact Robin, being the alias original boy wonder Dick Grayson chose for himself after growing up and going into the vigilante business on his own. The character is no stranger to electronic media, having previously appeared in the animated New Batman/Superman Adventures during the 1990’s.

At this point, it isn’t exactly clear how the project will tie in to the studio’s ever-growing DC Extended Universe. Whether it will be a solo film in the mold of Wonder Woman or Aquaman or a follow-up to the planned Batman movie remains to be seen.

Per Comingsoon.net, the source of this story:

This isn’t the first time that McKay has toyed with the character either, as Dick Grayson appeared in The LEGO Batman Movie. Dick was also previously played by Chris O’Donnell in Batman Forever and Batman & Robin.

The Nightwing movie joins a growing roster of films in the DCEU, including this year’s Wonder Woman and Justice League, the soon-to-be-in-production Aquaman, and the in-development Suicide Squad sequel, Gotham City Sirens, Cyborg, Green Lantern Corps., The Flash, and Shazam.
