Paul Thomas Anderson’s Phantom Thread Set For Release On Christmas

Focus Features announces that Academy Award-nominated There Will Be Blood director Paul Thomas Anderson‘s upcoming movie Phantom Thread will be released in December.

Releasing his last film, Inherent Vice, in 2014, the director has since thrown himself into work for his next project. The movie, whose official title is not even confirmed at this point, is said to be a thriller set in the world of 1950’s London’s fashion scene. Not much else is known about the production beyond this.

Although his output is not as extensive as some of his contemporaries, Anderson has managed to leverage the movies he has made to great success. In fact, he has been nominated for six separate Academy Awards over the course of his career, most recently for his work on adapting Inherent Vice for the big screen.

IndieWire, the source of this story, shares the following about the upcoming film:

Day-Lewis stars opposite Richard Graham, Lesley Manville and newcomer Vicky Krieps. Anderson’s longtime collaborator Johnny Greenwood will be composing the original score. Right now Focus’ fall slate is relatively thin, with only Stephen Frears’ “Victoria and Abdul” set for September. Anderson films “Inherent Vice,” “There Will Be Blood” and “Magnolia” all received December speciality runs after festival debuts, which seems to be the exact same path his new film is taking.
