Pirates of the Caribbean Dead Men Tell No Tales delayed until 2016. The fifth installment in Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean series, officially titled Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales (2016), has been pushed back from the summer of 2015 to the following year for issues surrounding the script, according to producer Jerry Bruckheimer, amongst others.
The three factors in the push-back:
As already stated, Jerry Bruckheimer has disclosed that the main culprit for the push back was script issues but that they “have an outline everyone loves.”
The box office failure of The Lone Ranger was the second factor in the people behind-the-scenes of Pirates of the Caribbean 5 pushing back the release date. They want to strength the script of the film.
“We want a script that everyone’s signed off on and a budget that everyone’s signed off on.” (Such projects have cost as much as $300 million in the past.) Coming up with a great script is “always hard,” Bruckheimer says, and after this summer, “everybody’s more cautious.”
The third factor in the push-back was wanting to keep Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales‘ budget at or below $200 million. Disney took a step toward this goal with its choice of director. “Bringing in Kon- Tiki directors Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg, who made their film on the water for a price, should help [with the film’s cost].
They apparently will also be helping with the quality of the script: “the Pirates filmmakers weren’t happy with screenwriter Jeff Nathanson’s initial script, and he’s now at work on a second attempt based on the well-received outline.”
Everyone seems to want a great fifth Pirates of the Caribbean 5 film.
