New Line Cinema Starts Filming For Upcoming Rampage Adaptation

Principal photography has officially started on New Line Cinema‘s planned adaptation of the classic Midway video game series Rampage.

Released in 1986, the original arcade game put players in control of a trio of giant monsters hellbent on destroying city after city. The game proved to be enormously popular and spawned a number of sequels that were ported to video game consoles, the most recent of which was 2006’s Rampage: Total Destruction for the Nintendo GameCube and Wii.

However, it took another ten years after the release of Total Destruction that headway was made on a film adaptation, which is set to hit theaters April of next year. According to producer Hiram Garcia, shooting is underway on the movie, posting a picture of stars Malin Akerman and Jake Lacy on his Twitter account.

Superherohype, the source of this story, shares the following information about the project:

This will mark the third collaboration between Johnson, producer Beau Flynn, director Brad Peyton and New Line, having worked on Journey 2: The Mysterious Island and San Andreas together as well. The latter film earned over $473 million at the global box offices, making it the most successful original blockbuster of summer 2015.

Carlton Cuse (San Andreas) and his Colony co-creator Ryan Condal rewrote the script by Non-Stop screenwriter Ryan Engle, which will involve Johnson going toe-to-toe with the game’s three original beasties.
