Cartoon Network Reveals Premiere Date For Samurai Jack

Cartoon Network officially announces that its long-awaited continuation of the network’s popular Samurai Jack will make its debut on March 11th.

Slated to premiere on Cartoon Network’s Toonami block, the fifth season of the show will mark the return of the animated program after 13 years off the air. Produced by Dexter’s Laboratory creator Genndy Tartakovsky, the series earned critical acclaim as well as four Emmy Awards with its unique story of a lone samurai on a journey through time itself. While the show ended after four seasons, it developed quite the cult following, members of which hoped that against all odds that it would be revived and its story concluded.

The announcement was made on Adult Swim, the network’s adult-oriented programming block, before being shared on Twitter. The promo teases viewers by asking if the season is “definitely happening” before revealing that its premiere date.

Creator Genndy Tartakovsky revealed in 2015 that the beloved series would return for a fifth season, moving from its familiar spot on Cartoon Network to the more mature Adult Swim block.

Premiering in 2001, the acclaimed series follows a time-displaced samurai on a quest to defeating the shape-shifting demon Aku, who destroyed his father’s kingdom. Praised for its animation style and epic battle scenes, “Samurai Jack” aired for four seasons before being canceled in 2004 by Cartoon Network.
