Netflix Green Lights Second Season Of Santa Clarita Diet

Netflix has opted to go ahead and renew its new original comedy series Santa Clarita Diet for a second season.

As one of the first streaming services to get on the in-house production bandwagon, Netflix has had a lion’s share of success with its original programming. Following the runaway success of dramas like Orange is the New Black and House of Cards, the service has since gone on to produce a litany of shows including several for Marvel like Jessica Jones and Daredevil.

Now, it would appear that Santa Clarita Diet is set to become a regular in Netflix’s growing stable of original programming. A dark comedy series that stars Drew Barrymore and Timothy Olyphant as a husband and wife couple, the first season of the show premiered just this February but it looks like the service is more than confident in its ability to keep drawing viewers in.

Deadline, the source of this story, shares the following information about the show’s plot:

In Santa Clarita Diet, Joel (Olyphant) and Sheila (Barrymore) are husband and wife realtors leading vaguely discontented lives in the L.A. suburb of Santa Clarita with their teenaged daughter Abby (Liv Hewson), until Sheila goes through a dramatic change sending their lives down a road of death and destruction…but in a good way. Skyler Gisondo also co-stars.
