SHARKNADO 5: Syfy And The Asylum Announce Disaster Movie Sequel

Sharknado 3 Oh Hell No

Sharknado 5 Confirmed For Production By Syfy And The Asylum

Syfy and The Asylum have revealed that they intend to produce yet another installment of the Sharknado franchise, tentatively titled Sharknado 5.

Although it might come as a surprise to casual movie and TV viewers, the two companies have managed to milk the tongue-in-cheek monster movie series far beyond what most would imagine is possible for a property that revolves around tornadoes hurling sharks at unsuspecting passerby. Since the premiere of the original production on Syfy in 2013, the series has kept chugging along with not one, not two, but three sequels, each of which built on the unexpectedly-lucrative formula of the first film.

In addition to announcing that there will be a fifth movie in the franchise, Syfy and Asylum also confirmed that Ian Ziering, Tara Reid, and Cassie Scerbo will return as the heroes of the series’ previous entries.

Per Comingsoon.net:

Sharknado 5, which sees the deadly weather phenomenon of shark-infested storms bombard cities around the world, will film in more than five countries, including the UK and Australia. Anthony C. Ferrante, who directed the first four films, is back to helm this latest installment, based on a script by Scotty Mullen.

The original 2013 Sharknado film, which introduced a cyclone depositing man-eating sharks on the citizens of Los Angeles, became a worldwide phenomenon and spawned a pop culture franchise.
