SHERLOCK: Toby Jones Added To Cast [BBC]

Toby Jones

Toby Jones signs on to the cast of Sherlock. The Emmy Award-nominated The Girl and Captain America: The First Avenger actor will play a role in the new season of the BBC‘s widely-popular detective series.

Despite it’s relatively short run compared to American television programs, Sherlock has cultivated a massive fan following across the world, comparable to that centered around fellow BBC show, the long-running Doctor Who. With production finally starting on the third season of Sherlock, it appears that fans’ prayers have been answered.

No less enthusiastic about the show is Jones, who says that he is “excited and intrigued” by the role he has been offered, an unidentified villain who will appear in the second episode of the new season:

Co-creator, writer and executive producer Mark Gatiss adds: “We’re thrilled to welcome one of our finest actors to the ‘Sherlock’ family. I know Toby will embrace the part with true relish!”

Sue Vertue, Executive Producer for Hartswood Films, says: “Great to have Nick Hurran back after his fabulous work in series three, and I’ve been wanting to work with Toby for ages, so this is a real treat.”

Promising laughter, tears, shocks, surprises and extraordinary cases, it was announced last month that series four will begin – with the nation’s favourite detective, the mercurial Sherlock Holmes, back once more on British soil – as Doctor Watson and his wife, Mary, prepare for their biggest ever challenge – becoming parents for the first time.
