Gina Prince-Bythewood Tapped To Helm Silver And Black

The Secret Life of Bees director Gina Prince-Bythewood will oversee production on Sony Pictures‘ upcoming Marvel superhero film Silver and Black.

Getting her start writing episodes for such TV series as A Different World, South Central, and Sweet Justice, Prince-Bythewood made her debut as a film director in 2000 with the sports-themed romantic comedy Love & Basketball. Since then, she has directed the drama Beyond the Lights and Before the Fall, an adaptation of the Lauren Oliver young adult novel of the same name. She has also served as a director on several TV shows, including The Bernie Mac Show, Girlfriends, and Everybody Hates Chris.

Based on a script by Thor: The Dark World scribe Chris Yost, the planned movie will follow Silver Sable and Black Cat, two female characters from Marvel‘s Spider-Man comics. Superherohype, the source of this story, shares the following information about the characters:

Created by Tom DeFalco and Ron Frenz, Silver Sable made her comic book debut in 1985’s The Amazing Spider-Man #265. Hailing from the fictional European nation Symkaria, Sable is an expertly trained mercenary whose company, Silver Sable International, funds a team called the Wild Pack. Although the Wild Pack was founded by Sable’s father, she herself becomes its leader.

Black Cat, meanwhile, dates back to 1979’s The Amazing Spider-Man #149. Created by Marv Wolfman and Keith Pollard, Felicia Hardy is an expert burglar who has the ability to manipulate probabilities, effectively bringing bad luck to those around her.
