Peter Parker Will Remain A High Schooler After Spider-Man: Homecoming
Marvel Entertainment producer Eric Caroll reveals that Tom Holland‘s version of Peter Parker will continue to attend high school after Spider-Man: Homecoming.
While visiting the set of the upcoming superhero reboot, Caroll spoke with Screen Rant about the academic future of our friendly neighborhood web slinger. As he explains, Peter will be a sophomore when the events of Homecoming take place and any sequels that follow will see him finish out his time in high school. Indeed, Marvel has already greenlit a sequel for 2019, meaning that Spidey might be a senior the next time we see him.
This is a noteworthy development from earlier Spider-Man films, many of which featured a slightly-older Parker who already graduated from high school. For instance, the first Spider-Man movie, which came out in 2002 and starred Tobey Maguire, actually started with the character on the cusp of graduation and spent the rest of the film following what happens after he completed his studies.

Though Peter has since moved on from high school in the comics, his history as a high schooler is one of the hallmarks of the character. After he was introduced in “Amazing Spider-Man” #15, he was one of the first comic book characters to lead his own title as a high schooler, and thus this became a staple of the character. This was expanded upon in Brian Michael Bendis and Mark Bagley’s popular “Ultimate Spider-Man” series, which debuted in 2000; in this series, the character spent the majority of his arc in high school.
