Tom Holland Discusses Plans And Hopes For Playing Spider-Man
Spider-Man: Homecoming star Tom Holland says that he wants to keep playing the wallcrawler after his first full movie as the character debuts in theaters.
As the lead of the latest Spider-Man reboot, Holland is the third actor to portray the Marvel Comics legend on the big screen, taking over the role from Andrew Garfield. Garfield, in turn, inherited the role from Tobey Maguire after Sony Pictures first decided to revamp the franchise. When Marvel approached the company about forming a partnership that would see Peter Parker cross paths with the Avengers, however, Sony hit the reset button once again and brought in Holland to take over Garfield’s web-slinging duties. Maguire may have the longest record as the character with three movies under his belt, but if Holland’s ambitious plans are anything to go by, he will have little trouble usurping the Great Gatsby star as the most prolific portrayer of Spidey.
CBR.com, the source of this story, quotes Holland as saying the following about his plans for playing Spider-Man:
“Peter Parker is a character we see [in the comic books] as a 15-year-old boy and then as a 35-year-old man,” the 20 year-old Brit explained in the most recent issue of Empire magazine. “So I have an idea of what I’d like to do, and I’ve pitched it and it’s already been taken into the boardroom. It would be really cool if it pans out, because it means I would be Spider-Man for a very long time.”
