Star Trek: Discovery To Feature Three Klingon Characters

CBS revealed today that there will be at least three Klingon characters among the cast of the network’s upcoming Star Trek: Discovery.

With several of the show’s human characters already having their actors announced, we now know have an idea of how many non-human characters will join them. According to CBS, Shazad Latif, Chris Obi, and Mary Chieffo will all play Klingons in the series:

The Klingon cast features Obi as T’Kuvma, a “Klingon leader seeking to unite the Klingon houses,” Latif as Kol, “commanding officer of the Klingons and protégé of T’Kuvma,” and Chieffo as L’Rell, “the battle deck commander of the Klingon ship.”

The new Klingon cast additions join previously-announced Star Trek: Discovery stars Doug Jones (Pan’s Labyrinth) as Lt. Saru, Anthony Rapp (Rent) as Lt. Stamets, and Michelle Yeoh as Captain Georgiou.

Star Trek: Discovery takes place about a decade before the original Star Trek and roughly a hundred years after Earth made first contact with the Klingon species (as depicted in the Star Trek: Enterprise pilot, “Broken Bow”). At this point in Trek history, the Federation and the Klingon Empire should be facing an uneasy cold war.

Following its May 2017 premiere on the CBS Television Network, all episodes of Star Trek: Discovery will be available in the U.S. exclusively on CBS All Access.
