Star Trek: Discovery Casts Rainn Wilson as Harry Mudd

Star Trek: Discovery is ready to bring in another character, and this one comes straight off of the original series. Actor Rainn Wilson has joined the cast of the upcoming CBS All Access TV series. Wilson will be portraying Harry Mudd, an old villain from the original show.

The Star Trek: Discovery Twitter page revealed that Emmy-nominated actor Rainn Wilson will be making an appearance in the upcoming series as a character that fans of the original series will know, Harry Mudd. The con artist, who was last played by the late Roger C. Carmel will be used in the series as it will take place in the same timeline as the original series.

In the original series, Harry Mudd was an intergalactic criminal who showed up in a few episodes of the original series. He was supposed to be a part of Star Trek: The Next Generation with Mudd waking up aboard the Enterprise-D from cryogenic suspension. However, after the passing of actor Roger C. Carmel, his character wasn’t included.

It will be interesting to see how the new series will use this character. Perhaps we may get his origins on how he became the con artist that fans may know from the original series. We have yet to receive a release date for Star Trek: Discovery but it will be coming out sometime this Fall as production is set to start soon.
