Princess Leia Revealed To Play Bigger Role In Star Wars: Episode VIII
Deadline reports that Princess Leia features prominently in Star Wars: Episode VIII.
The news comes just hours after it was announced that Carrie Fisher passed away due to complications brought about by her heart attack this past weekend.
Shooting on the upcoming science fiction sequel wrapped up during the summer, meaning that Fisher completed her scenes alongside the rest of the cast:
Fisher was intended to return for “Star Wars: Episode IX,” which is scheduled for release in 2019 and doesn’t begin shooting until next year. It’s unclear at this time how Disney intends to proceed considering Fisher’s untimely death. Though nothing is certain at this point, it’s worth noting that the studio recently used CGI technology to bring the late Peter Cushing’s General Tarkin to “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story,” which hit theaters this December, a good 22 years following his death. Additionally, that same technology was also applied to Fisher herself, as a much younger Princess Leia Organa appeared in the conclusion of the film.
Fisher won’t be the only one with an expanded role in “Star Wars: Episode VIII.” In an earlier interview, Fisher’s daughter Billie Lourd revealed that she will also have a larger role in the film. In “The Force Awakens,” she played Lieutenant Kaydel Ko Connix and had only one line: an exchange with her mother’s General Leia.
